Amelia
Female
16 years 8 months.
Amelia
Visit me at Lange Foundation
I Really Need a HOME! Amelia came to Lange in 2019, after her owner had passed away. She had lived happily in a loving home for 15 years; so it was understandable that she had some trouble adjusting to life in the kennel. Once she settled in, we tried her out in several of the cat rooms. This was not a good fit for her, as the other cats really stressed her out. Currently Amelia is living in the Treatment Room, in a small cage enclosure. She feels very cozy in her comfy bed, but--due to the small space she lives in and all the stressors of being in a bustling room with an ever-changing cast of characters--it is very clear that Amelia still is living with a lot of stress. And that this kitty will really thrive best in a true home environment. Amelia is a really easy cat--she has very basic senior kitty needs! She likes to be snuggly in her blankets and bed. She is friendly and loyal to her human friends and is happy to give you affection! She has recently been diagnosed with Pancreatitis, for which there is no treatment or cure. This does not affect her in any daily way--she just may require occasional pain medication. Her super-senior age and her health condition make it even more important to us that this chapter of her life is a happy one! She will, of course, live her life at Lange Foundation if she is not adopted. But it is a limited sort of life for a cat that cannot thrive in the general population. And it is that Amelia's dearest wish is a cozy corner in a real home. We have placed so many of our super-senior and health-compromised animals with wonderful adopters. It's a really special arrangement and we work closely with them to ensure that these animals get to experience a healthy, happy-ever-after. If you are interested in this very meaningful type of adoption, please contact us! We would love to tell you more!

Aspen came to us from the Palmdale Animal Shelter as the sweet momma of five kittens. They were fostered and then came to live with us at our halfway home kennel. Aspen is a lovely soul who craves human attention and would love nothing more than to curl up with you on the couch or chase a wand toy. She is very well balanced that way! She was just introduced into a room with other cats so after a little bit of time we will know more on how she is with others.

Bilbo
Male
2 years 8 months.
Bilbo
Visit me at Lange Foundation
Bilbo was rescued recently from the East Valley Shelter, along with 13 other cats, from a hoarding situation. About half of those cats were very social. The other half not-so-much. Bilbo and his brother, Titan, fall on the shy end of this spectrum. Because we don't know very much about their past lives, it is difficult to say if this is from the stress of being taken away from their home. Or perhaps they were never socialized in the first place. We just don't know! While we have all of these questions, the first answer lies in giving them time to acclimate to the sanctuary life of Lange's Halfway Kennel. When they first arrived, they received some medications, which did not help us win their favor! So now we are mainly letting them have some peace and quiet with very brief intervals of human interaction. They have also been moved to rooms with friendly/neutral cats. We will continue to work with them to see if they are open to interacting, either with humans or other cats. We have worked with many cats like this over the years. It is always a process and the results can be surprising! At this point, Bilbo is still hissing and hiding. Some staff have been able to pet him with no trouble and sometimes he just runs away no matter which way you approach him. Right now he definitely distrusts the environment and does not think too very much of people yet. The ultimate decision in this process is up to Bilbo and while we are helping him, we are also waiting to see if he is able to make a decision to trust us. And right now we just don't know what that decision will be! If you are someone who is interested in helping Bilbo or any other of our shy cats in a home environment, please inquire with the staff! We believe strongly that these cats need a very slow and steady approach. They might do very well in a home, with the right person, who has reasonable expectations for outcomes. In the meantime, we will keep working with Bilbo and the others, to assess their needs and to keep them moving forward, so that they can have the quality of life that they so deserve!

Blake
Male
7 years 9 months.
Blake
Visit me at Lange Foundation
TENDER HEARTED SHY BOY. Blake is such a special kitty! We have had the honor of watching this little fellow blossom over time and show the makings of a truly devoted companion cat. Staff and volunteers that have taken the time to get to know Blake see how he loves to connect. He is fond of cuddle sessions in the sunshine of the catio enclosure. And looooooves treats. What we really enjoy about Blake is his gentle nature and his eye contact--he locks into your gaze and it is hard not to melt. Blake has quite the origin story, even the small part of it that we know! We brought him into Lange in 2018--a survivor of Florida's Hurricane Irma. Due to his journey and experiences, it took him quite a while to process his trauma and move into a better place emotionally. At first he was very wary of loud sounds and especially of people approaching him. In addition to these more recent events--we don't know his earlier background. Blake is pretty small in stature and has one ear tipped--so he could have been a longtime member of a feral colony or just not socialized to people early in life. We just don't know! Having withstood a hurricane and a long plane trip to a totally new location probably didn't help his confidence! But we have kept him safe and sound. And leveling up! One area that Blake has been great at, over time, is maintaining healthy boundaries! He has always been clear at communicating what he is comfortable with and what he is not comfortable with. Which to some might make him seem like he is just playing hard-to-get. Or that he seems stand-offish. But that couldn't be farther from the truth. He really wants to connect, but his former experiences have taught him to be wary. The fact that he keeps trying and growing is heartwarming, indeed! We believe that when is able to go home with the right person who can meet him where he is at and help him to keep moving forward...that he will truly be able to relax. And enjoy a life free from the worry he has known in his life. We have found that what Blake has responded to most when interacting with people is a gentle, quiet and very *not needy* approach. He dislikes very much feeling like he is being come at in a "creepy" or "grabby" way. He likes to know that you are open and inviting and that you will not take advantage of his trust. All of which makes sense, given what we do know. Blake is looking for consistency, loyalty and the feeling of safety without conditions. And once you meet him at this heart-level...it's such a pleasure to do so! While Blake is still not quite ready for vigorous pets or the concept of "play"--he has definitely found his sweet spot in being pet on his head and chin; and he will even snooze contentedly with his chin on your hand. He will come when called and is quite the charmer--making lots of biscuits while he shows you his belly in the sun. If he sees you making the rounds, showering attention on the other cats, he will just "appear" magically by your side...patiently waiting his turn. And while Blake generally gets on quite well with the other cats in the enclosure; we are thrilled to report that he is even getting confident enough to stand up for himself if another kitty tries to crash his love fest. All of this is no small feat for a formerly terrified little fellow! He amazes us all the time and we can't say enough about this small, sweet love. If you are looking for a cat that is looking for a nurturing home--with lots of love on his easy terms, and with room to grow--Blake is your boy!

Lange Foundation

Chloe
Female
10 years 7 months.
Chloe
Visit me at Lange Foundation
Our Chloe-girl's origin story is a bit of a mystery. But she has been at Lange for 9 years so far. Chloe has been one of those shy kitties that have hunkered so long in the background, that she gets overlooked all of the time. In the past she has "read" as unapproachable to visitors. It is largely believed that she simply didn't receive the early socialization that the young ones need to learn to trust humans. She does fine with other cats--they certainly do not see her as a threat. And she has a reputation of being wary of strangers and of staff, if/when they ever have to dole out routine medications or treatments. This is understandable when you consider her experiences so far. What we HAVE noticed over time is encouraging. There has been progress. And some bonds forged. But some one-on-one engagement is what Chloe really needs. The plain facts are that Chloe has not to-date had her heart opened up. She hasn't found a person, her person yet. She's getting closer all the time. One of the things that makes it difficult in her current situation is that she is living in an enclosure populated by other shy kitties, seniors or ones with litter box or medical issues. It is a difficult space for them to have room to "play" and one where there are strict cat-imposed social rules. So someone like Chloe often finds herself at the bottom of the social order. Again, over time this has changed somewhat. We've learned that she does positively respond to attention and care. She loves a good chin rub and a back pat. We also know that she has a naturally playful nature--and loves a good laser light (though she doesn't feel like she can follow through with this impulse in her current room). These three things are a wonderful base for anyone interested in helping a cat like Chloe. She also has been coming closer to sit by volunteers that she knows, will look you in the eye and no longer wants to run away when you reach out to pet her. And the quiet kennel environment due to the shut-down has been great for many of the animals in our care--like Chloe. If you are interested in her or any of our other shy kitties (we have several that would respond best to an adopter who wants to help them in this area)--please let us know! Earning the trust of a shy kitty does take time, patience and a lot of positive reinforcement--but you will be rewarded with a special bond and a one-of-a-kind friend.

Chrissy
Female
11 years 1 month.
Chrissy
Visit me at Lange Foundation
Forever Young! Although she will turn 11 at the end of the year, Chrissy still looks and acts like a teenage kitty. Maybe that is because we have known Chrissy for so many years. She was abandoned by her owners in 2011. We enjoyed her at the kennel until 2018, when she was adopted. She was very recently returned by these latest owners, who had decided that they were too old to care for her. In spite of these events, we are thrilled to report that Chrissy returned an even *better* cat than ever. Being in a home clearly agreed with her! At first, of course, she was very upset to be back. We had to put her on a special diet for a sensitive stomach--which also meant being placed in our "Senior Kitty" room. Her tummy is much improved. And we are also SO IMPRESSED with her grace and poise in this enclosure (it can be a tough crowd!). Chrissy manages her need to play, while observing boundaries and giving much respect. Her arrival has not caused a stir at all. And that is pretty remarkable! That is not surprising, though--Chrissy is a very mellow and pleasant cat! We feel that one reason she lived so long at Lange is that she has never been a needy or desperate case. Her low-key, placid nature makes her an ideal kitty to share space with. She does have one "ON" switch--and that is PLAY! But she's a self-starter and would enjoy enrichment in the form of toys and a great perch to watch the world go by. Chrissy is "Independent" in the best possible way. (In this case it is NOT code for "sassy!") Chrissy is simply looking for a mellow place to chill. Like forever. Could it perhaps be with you?

Dixie
Female
9 years 7 months.
Dixie
Visit me at Lange Foundation
Dixie (one of the prettiest cats we've ever seen!) originally came through St. Bonnie's Sanctuary, where she lived until 2016. She was transferred to us with other St. Bonnie's residents and it took her a long time to settle in. She was famous for either hiding in cubby holes--either deep and low or up high. Seated in her trademark "talk to the tail" style: Head In. Tail OUT. Dixie was a whole mood. Not angry. Just not really ready to participate in her new reality. How Dixie handled her feline roommates? Well, she didn't. She only emerged for the necessities--she would pick her way delicately through the room, careful not to encounter the other cats. Slowly, over time, she began to stop and say hi to people in the enclosure--but only if they were on her intended path. And sometimes she would just sit at the door of the enclosure. Staring out as if she knows there is something out there waiting for her. We are looking for just the right adopter/s for gentle Dixie. She has been placed twice before, but returned both times. You can imagine this has not helped Dixie's self esteem! We are certain that Dixie wants to be your ONLY pet. If you are drawn to this beauty, take your time to get to know her. Ask the staff and the volunteers about her. She is a lovely cat! She needs to connect with someone who will, with love and patience, help her be her best authentic self. Someone that is committed to helping her move forward in life with confidence and deserved trust. So that she can enjoy the next chapter of her one, precious life!

Ginger
Female

Ginger
Visit me at Lange Foundation
Ginger has been at Lange Foundation for much of her life. She is a loving and friendly cat who is often one of the first to greet any visitor. She really loves to "check in" and say hi! Ginger also loves to sit quietly, often right by your side. Or in a comfy bed in the sunshine, in our catio enclosure. She also LOVES to play (the laser light is her JAM!) and she loves treats! Like any sensible cat, Ginger has a few boundaries. And she will tell you what they are--in a cute little growly voice. And maybe with a "tap" to let you know that she really meant business. She has recently had some dental issues that are being corrected, that may have also led to a certain discomfort on her part. Over time she has really learned to curb her dislike of the bustling kennel environment and of other cats. She for the most part really has it all together, for a cat who doesn't love a lot of noise or chaos. It has also helped, now that the kennel has been closed to the general public. For our animals who enjoy a more tranquil vibe, they experienced a mellow 2020. Once you get the *memo* and don't push her, she is so lovely! She is just one of those cats that wants to take it at a slower pace. On her timeline. There is no doubt that in a home, with just a little compassion and restraint (because you will want to cuddle her), Ginger will open up to you. Yes, Ginger does "okay" at the kennel. But what we are really looking for is a placement where she can settle in, stretch out. And relax. Once you learn to listen and understand where she is coming from--it's clear that Ginger is an adorable, sweet girl. She also has a fun and silly side that is waiting to come out and play! All she needs is a little consistency and guarantee of space to meet you halfway.

Houdini
Male
5 years 9 months.
Houdini
Visit me at Lange Foundation
DOG CAT! Looking for a "dog cat" who seems to be a blend of working dog and bengal kitty? One who lives up to his name--for he sure has been a whiz at door dashing and keeping us on our toes! Then Houdini might be the boy for you! We rescued Houdini from the East Valley Shelter in 2019. We could tell right away that he was special. Although he is just the size of your average male tabby--he seems so much bigger! That's due to his energy and intelligence. As well as his affectionate nature and desire to connect! Since the kennel has been closed to the general public, we have had the time to let Houdini out of his enclosure--to let him run around and play with more abandon. Before that time, he would always crawl right up on visitor laps. And then shock them with his "muchness!" And he is...Extra! But GOOD extra! Houdini's main obstacle at Lange is that he doesn't have the ability to have devoted human interaction. And he is rather bored with his enclosure. In our estimation, he would be best placed in a home where someone will be around and available--a true co-habitation. In the kennel, he will look to find other cats to annoy and pester; so we feel that he would be best as an only. If he were to be placed in a home with other animals, a sporty, agreeable dog might be more appropriate. Because of his frankly pushy behavior, he has ended up being the default "alpha" in his enclosure (mainly because there is no one animal or person that can burn off his energy or put him in his place). So a home where he could have some guidance about manners, along with ongoing enrichment (such as rotating his toys, puzzle feeders, even simple things like boxes or bags to play with), would be one that he would love! If you want more information about this wonderful, busy boy, contact the staff! We would love to tell you more.

Jackie
Visit me at Lange Foundation
There's no denying Jackie has had some rough patches in her life! She was adopted and in a home for several years. When her owner passed away, she was left all alone in the house for THREE MONTHS until she was finally brought to Lange in 2015. Since she's been back in the kennel, it's clear that this trauma has taken its toll. While she is friendly, she still does not trust people. At first, she will seem fine--but gets stressed out when visitors, volunteers or staff move too quickly or are too physically demonstrative with her. She also has some difficulty feeling free in the kennel environment. She will want to play with you, but she doesn't love having to share the space with other cats. So be mindful that it may be difficult during a visitation for her to show you; but she is an enthusiastic chaser-of-the-laser-light! A Mistress of the Feather Wand! Jackie would love to live her life out in a peaceful home, with a compassionate and undemanding adopter. Are you the one that would allow this special girl to learn to trust and love in a forever home?

Jackson
Male
7 years 4 months.
Jackson
Visit me at Lange Foundation
Jackson is a TRUE Rescue Cat! He was found wandering the streets in the aftermath of 2017's Hurricane Irma. A good samaritan took him in; and the following year he and 3 other cats were flown from Florida to our facility. Jackson seemed to be one of the least affected, emotionally speaking, from this dramatic experience. He has a naturally quiet nature, which has remained constant since his arrival. Jackson can usually be found in the middle of the atrium, soaking up the atmosphere and taking everything in with a very zen attitude. He is one of those cats that the other feline residents like to sit by. He is seen as a friend to all. Jackson does have a few common health issues--he has chronic nasal congestion due to feline herpes, as well as skin allergies. It's hard to say if they pre-date his Hurricane experience, but they have been apparent since his arrival and are certainly exacerbated by living in the kennel environment. They do seem to get in his way of feeling truly comfortable, particularly when he is initially getting to know people. When you try to pet him, you might find that he gets a little excited or distracted. It's not that Jackson doesn't want touch or attention. He is just reminded suddenly that he is stuffed up and a little itchy. We encourage you to talk to him and get to know him first by just hanging out. Stay for a little chat--his steady, child-like eye contact and little silent meows are adorable! Staff and volunteers know him to be a truly darling fellow who makes a real heart connection. The pets and physical touch can come gradually. And in a peaceful home, with steady nourishment (emotionally and physically speaking), Jackson is sure to open up more and more...rewarding an adopter with his lovely companionship for years to come!

Katie
Visit me at Lange Foundation
Vivacious, spirited Katie. This energetic lady has so much life and love to give! She is known as the official Lange Greeter, from the way she meets every incoming person with enthusiasm and a tongue bath. It's important to know that Katie has had several bumps in her life. She came to Lange in 2017, after being surrendered by her owner because they were moving. She has been placed with an adopter twice, which has not worked out. Each time, the adopter did not keep her for very long. Each time, it has taken time and effort on her part to readjust to the disappointment of being back. We are looking for the perfect placement for Katie. In a home where she is the ONLY cat. We also need an interested adopter to understand this reality: Katie will take a long while to fully settle into a new home. It could be several months where she is likely to be cranky and very put out at yet another change in her life. With her large capacity for emotion and expression, she is going to let you know about it! It will require a home that will help her ride that out with patience, calm and good humor. With adopter/s that are up for that challenge. We know all of these complexities to be true about Katie. We also know what it looks like when she experiences Joy. And that it is a sight to behold! Funny and affectionate. Zesty and adorable. That's just Katie.

Kensi
Visit me at Lange Foundation
Kensi came to Lange as a tiny singleton and was adopted out shortly after she arrived. She only remained at that home for two months. As a result, her behavior upon return suggested that she had missed out on socialization with humans. While she was very friendly and all her language cried out for human contact, she became very reactive to being handled in almost any way or form! That said, she is still eager to play with toys (she loves a good feather wand) and does like people. These ingrained traits do not mean that she would not love a a home or human companionship - we have seen first hand that she has the potential to change. She would be well-suited for an adopter that understands her history and how it manifests itself in this athletic, engaging little girl. So that she can move forward in her young life and live it out with freedom and the potential to learn, be and grow!

Lila
Visit me at Lange Foundation
Lila came to Lange earlier this year, where she had been living in a household with over 30 other cats. The owner had become ill and needed for them to be rehomed. We took in Lila plus 13 of the others, where they could recuperate and become available for adoption into new homes. Lila was a little scared at first in her new situation, but it didn't take long at all for her to warm up to human visitors. Lila was one of the first of these cats to find a family interested in adopting her. She went home for a trial period, but was recently brought back. The family felt that it was not a good fit for Lila, they thought she felt overwhelmed in a home with young children. Now this pretty puss is back and settling in. We have two pieces of observation that can help find her that right home--we have noticed that she is quite bossy with the other cats in her room (some of which are from her original home) and she really is sweet and playful with people. All of these factors indicate that Lila would be the perfect lady for anyone looking for a sweet, fluffy and young cat who will be your one and only. It appears as though she would like this most of all--to be a pampered lady indeed. If this sounds like you--please contact the kennel staff for more information!

Lucille is a stunning cat! Besides her sweet face, the first thing you notice is her size and stature. A very tall, solid, muscular Queen. Lucille was adopted from Lange as a kitten in 2010, where she lived in her home with a family. A local shelter contacted us; letting us know that she had been surrendered for urinating inappropriately. The behavior was said to be due to stress from the other cats in the home. It's to Lucille's credit that she has been utterly delightful since her return to Lange! She has been only sweet and cheerful. One cute surprise has been in the high pitched happy *squeaks* she uses to communicate with you when you approach her to visit. She is thrilled to give and receive love and seems to be taking her current situation in stride. Since being back at Lange, Lucille is also using her litter box appropriately. It would likely be best, considering her previous experience, for her to be placed in a peaceful, easy-going environment--perhaps as a solo kitty. Lucille is SUCH a pleasant sweetheart of a cat--we would love to set her up for success with an adopter. It's thrilling to be able to offer her a chance to begin the next chapter in her one precious life. Contact us if you think this could be with you!

Sweet little Lyra! She is a senior who is very petite in stature, but SO full of life and love. Lyra was literally the most outgoing and friendly of this bunch. She has since been placed into a room with several of these cats, as well as some that are new to her. It has become clear that she is a cat that is most interested in human contact. As soon as you enter the room, here she comes! Straight to your lap. Where she wants to be the one and only focus of your attention. She will hiss at the other cats who approach--not in a malicious way. It's just that she leads with her paw, in her adorable effort to keep you all to herself. She is utterly gentle and lovely with people. A truly wonderful nuzzler who still finds interest in play--especially with the laser light. It's important to note that Lyra does have a few medical conditions that will require your attention in the home. She is currently getting subcutaneous fluids once a day and is on blood medication for a heart condition. She is not a super-fan of receiving these, but with some practice (or previous experience) these can certainly become just a part of your daily routine. If you would like to know more about Lyra or any other of our cats with medical conditions--ask the staff! Lange Foundation makes a point of rescuing just these types of animals from the local shelters. We work with adopters to provide the best "next chapter" for these loving animals, who still have so much life to live!

Maddie

Maddie
Visit me at Lange Foundation
LOVING, LOYAL QUEEN! There is just something about Maddie. We adore her at Lange. She was originally surendered to the Lancaster Shelter. We rescued her and she lived for some years at our St. Bonnie's location. Maddie came to our Westside location after a number of cats were evacuated due to a fire threat at St. Bonnies. At first she was a combination of worried, sad and mad. A combination of all the tumult of her life to-date. But with time, she came to trust. And open up. And it has been lovely to watch and participate in her growth! Maddie is one of our cats that has benefitted from the "seasoning" of being at the kennel over time. It has become her new normal. She has seen enough coming and going of our feline population, that she is much more accustomed to change. She has also worked her way up the pecking order! Maddie is our current alpha female in the front room cat enclosure. An area which can be a little tough to navigate! There's an indoor/outdoor (enclosed catio) component which can cause territorial squawks from time to time. Like all our spaces--the room often takes on the "vibe" allowed by the more dominant cats in the room. Over the years, if you have visited, you may have noticed that the cats calling the shots are usually in the mid-adult range. And they oftentimes have been some of our quirkier ladies! But with Maddie at the helm, the enclosure has been more mellow. She's respected as the last word by the other cats. And is generally kind towards newcomers. She is quick to subdue any upstarts or "trouble makers," which keeps a more general peace. Not only is Maddie a stand-up in her own cat crew--we can't say enough about the DEEP and LOVING HEART towards her people. Once she has opened up to you--which only takes a little time and kindness on your part--you are IN! She is very lap-adjacent kitty that loves to have at least one body part touching you at all times. And she will expose her belly for gentle pats. We think she is not a lap cat because she is too busy watching over the room and also because there is not proper "furniture" to practice lap-sitting! But she is definitely a companion-style cat. She has proved to us over time that she is willing to be vulnerable, to grow. And her loving affection is like that given by few others--when you have been loved on by Maddie--you know it! She has truly earned her place in her own forever home. Preferably with someone who will be around a lot of the time--we get the idea that she takes her role very seriously as a full member of your crew. If you think Maddie might be the right fit for you--contact the staff. We are really looking forward to getting her placed!

Maggie
Visit me at Lange Foundation
Oh, sweet Maggie May. We rescued her from the West LA shelter, where she had not been thriving in that environment. We don't know much about her backstory. Just that familiar thread we often see--that mid-point in her life, for whatever reason, she has ended up without a home. These are animals that we love to rescue! We know that they don't have a huge shot at the shelter. And we can provide them with a shot at a long term home--either with us or hopefully with a new human person or family! We also know that twelve is not ancient. That there is often lots more life in these adults yet! And it's a beautiful thing to see them get one more chance to enjoy it. Maggie has been doing just fine in our care. Her appetite has returned! And she went to our vet and had a checkup and a dental. She spent the usual quarantine in the treatment area; and she was recently moved up to the front enclosure. The staff reports that she has handled this transition well, which is a good sign that she is generally just a nice kitty. (As you can imagine, it can be overwhelming to move into a cat enclosure with a score of other new roommates! We will watch them at this time, to glean some information about how they handle change and if we can get some early clues to their personality). So far Maggie has been nothing other than a nice, quiet kitty. Not one to ruffle any feathers. Just ready to settle in and get busy in leading a quiet senior life! Just think how much happier she would be, still, in a home environment. This girl is ready for her Part II. Her own happy ending! Feel free to contact the Lange staff to see how she is doing currently. We would love to tell you more!

Marie Antoinette
Female

Marie Antoinette
Visit me at Lange Foundation
Pretty Marie Antoinette was originally rescued when she was a little kitten--found living inside a tire behind an Auto Parts store. We brought her into our care and she was adopted out quickly and lived in a home for 11 years. The owner brought her back to us due to inappropriate litter box use, but the situation could have likely been complicated due to the fact that Marie Antoinette had been allowed to be an indoor/outdoor cat during that time. Since she has been back at Lange, she has had a few litter box issues...some of which may be due to her desire to be your one and only. We encourage you to contact the staff to ask for more details and ways that this might be monitored in the home. Because of her history with the litterbox, Marie Antoinette has lived at Lange in an enclosure with kitties that have similar issues, are seniors, or have other medical conditions. As you can see from her photograph, she is a gorgeous Lynx Point Siamese. She is really vocal and there have been times when the timbre of her meows can be mis-read as a little yowl-y or disgruntled. This vocability in addition to her *royal air* and her desire to push her way to the front of the line for pets and attention, have perhaps earned her a bit of an undeserved reputation. Marie Antoinette is at the core a really sweet cat and we find her quirky traits truly charming! She is definitely mellowing more since the kennel quarantine, since it has been more quiet. And she does pretty well with the other cats at this time--though we still believe her best bet is as your only lady love. As far as her senior health goes--She is currently not on any medication; her most recent bloodwork came back normal for her age and her echocardiogram was "unremarkable." If you like the looks of this lovely lady, shoot us a message and will be happy to tell you more!

Minnie
Visit me at Lange Foundation
Lange rescued little Minnie from the Castaic Animal Shelter. Her people had surrendered her, stating they could no longer care for her dental needs. We stepped in, brought her to the kennel; and took her to our feline dentist, who is treating her stomatitis. Minnie sure does not let her condition get her down, she is a super playful cat that loves nothing more than a vigorous pet-&-play session (she is especially fascinated with the laser light). She has a comical, robust and very affectionate nature. She is a treat to look at, too--she has beautiful reddish black fur that is rather short--so the effect of petting her is like touching velvet. You'll also love her cozy size--she is compact but has a sturdy little frame! In a home and with people to love would certainly be her preference over living here with so many other cats. Please contact the staff if you would like to know about Minnie and what would be involved in her care! We're here to help!

Mr. Grey

Mr. Grey
Visit me at Lange Foundation
MIRACLES HAPPEN! We don't know anything about Mr. Grey except for this first miracle. In 2017 a good samaritan rescued him and 3 other cats from the streets of Fort Lauderdale, in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma in 2017. These cats were transported to us and had clearly experienced a significant degree of trauma. Two of these cats perked up in pretty quick time and were adopted into new homes. Over time, it became more and more clear to us that Mr. Grey and Blake (the two remaining Hurricane kitties) may have actually been feral in their former lives. Not only were they experiencing a level of shock and distress at being at the kennel, they were EXTREMELY shy of people. Mr. Grey, in particular, would not even make eye contact with staff, volunteers or visitors. And he would run away any time he was approached. One interesting thing we sometimes would notice in the enclosure, is that Mr. Grey could be found playing by himself. In a most silly manner. Having "zoomies" and even chasing his tail. But still...no one was able to break through that wall he had built up around him. This year we have seen some startling PROGRESS and major breakthroughs with our boy. Early in the year, Lange upgraded their outdoor catio space to allow for more open lounging for the cats; and Mr. Grey certainly has loved sunning himself out there. He also began coming to sit more closely to volunteers as they were making progress in socializing fellow hurricane survivor, Blake. It was as if he was watching and soaking up some of the calm and gentle visitation that was happening with his friend. Also, since the kennel closure due to the Covid_19 pandemic, Mr. Grey has really seemed to mellow out with the new-found peace and quiet of their environment. And suddenly, a few months ago another MIRACLE occurred: it was discovered, by pure chance, that Mr. Grey will allow himself to be touched! It's not a conventional approach and really surprised us--but Mr. Grey will come running to bury his head in a feather wand toy. A volunteer who stopped by the outside of the catio one day discovered this trick. And the staff have been working with him since. Mr. Grey LOVES the feather wand. And for him, it is not about play. Not at all. He is desirous to make human contact. It's been slow progress. But every day he is improving and now will allow some of us to pet him along his backside. He also loves to follow his favorite people around the room, will come when called and will sit down close--hoping to be pet in this "contactless" manner. We are not sure if Mr. Grey is quite ready for his home. But we are thrilled to report that he is now a loving boy who is unafraid to make eye contact, reciprocate lovingly and claim his space. His progress is unfolding! And it's an important reminder that we will never give up on a cat while there is hope. We love you, Mr. Grey.

Nomi
Female

Nomi
Visit me at Lange Foundation
Sweet Nomi was rescued with her 5 kittens from the Harbor Shelter. The litter was fostered by our founder for a month, before coming into the kennel. Due to space limitations, they were housed in a wonderfully quiet space. But one where they felt a little worried about what was going to "happen next." Once they hit the treatment area, where there were people and more things going on, they began to relax. The kittens, especially, have done well and are now in the kitten room where they are living it up! They are all soon to go home to homes of their own. Nomi has yet to enter into the general population cat rooms, but she will very soon! She is, understandably, a little more nervous than her babies. She has been super sweet and polite since her arrival. She so far has been a little quiet--but is always receptive once you make an effort to connect. We are certain that her nice little personality will have a better chance to shine through once we get to know her better. We'll update her profile once she does interact with the other cats and have that information on how she adapts. Her kittens love to be snuggling with their peers and loved their Mama. When she has interacted with us, she has been affectionate and is indicating that while she is feeling that reserve, she is open to making a connection. Nomi just needs a home that will work her to let her lovely, gentle light shine!

Pandora
Visit me at Lange Foundation
Heroic, resilient and goofy Pandora. This little girl has been through a lot in her young life and through it all she has been a joy. Because she is so full of joy! Pandora came to Lange as a tiny kitten with a prolapsed rectum and chronic diarrhea. We worked diligently to find ways to help her and what finally worked was...can you believe it...a poop transplant! Healthy fecal matter was introduced into her digestive tract and now Pandora has a healthy stool! Pandora is an extremely happy cat. The only thing she doesn't like is to have her bottom cleaned, which is understandable! She is a real charmer that will go out of her way to get your attention--she literally will turn somersaults to catch your eye. Pandora gets along great with all dogs, cats and people. She approaches everyone as her friend. She gets along most famously with fellow quirky kitty, SULLIVAN. Pandora does still need some help and work with the litter box. She is getting the hang of how "regular" elimination works and where to put it. She is looking for a home that understands the health hurdles she has overcome. One that will embrace her as the little ray of sunshine she is, and celebrate her daily!

Patsy Garrett
Visit me at Lange Foundation
You know at Lange Foundation we tend to pick the underdogs. The medical cases. The ones that are most vulnerable at the local shelters. They are some of the most rewarding rescues; and we are passionate about allowing them to enjoy a fresh start. In some cases, this may be their first chance at a happy start. While we don't know very much about Patsy G's back story...we do know that the way in which she landed in the local shelter was pretty dramatic! Patsy was brought to the East Valley shelter after being found outside--stuck. With her leg hung up on a fence. Once we heard her story and saw her injury, we knew we could help--by taking her immediately to get emergency care. Her wound was pretty gnarly...a huge gash on her hip had begun to go necrotic and was covered in maggots. The medical intervention was straightforward wound care, that consisted of a thorough cleaning and clipping of the area. It did, however, require a prolonged stay at the vet, so that they could monitor the wound area, which was left open. She remained there for a week's time, so that they could make sure that her body would produce new, healthy tissue. Her initial recovery went great! The vet reported that her injured area was healing nicely. And once they closed up her sutures, we brought her to Lange for further R & R in our treatment area. The overall impression of Patsy Garrett so far is that she is a very special lady! Not only is she one of those rarities in the feline world--an orange tabby that is female. She is also proving to be super-cheerful and we can't get enough of how lovely she's been since her arrival. She is truly a Champion and a Superstar in our books! Was Patsy a stray? Lost? Abandoned? We won't ever know how she came to be hanging on that fence a little while back. We just know that after a hard time out there in the wilds, this Valley Girl is now safe. This pretty youngster is just bound to really appreciate and relish a new forever home. If you feel like you might be a match that could provide Patsy G. a wonderful Second Act, just contact us! We would love to tell you more about this special girl.

Shellay
Visit me at Lange Foundation
Shellay is truly one of the most interesting cats. Visitors are often drawn to her petite size and pretty markings; but find that she can be hard to approach and resistant to their overtures. Then there are other times when she is super loving and open. You see then how she gets the reputation for being a little fickle--of blowing "hot and cold." Volunteers and staff know that the best approach is to literally ask her if she is in the mood for a visit. If she is not, you will know it--she will shrink away from you. If she is, she will come when called and love you up. Just respect her vibe. That's all she wants. Don't rush in--and you'll find that the relationship and love starts from there! The other cats in the enclosure view her as a calming, steady presence. A safe "ally" that they are able to sleep next to and hang out with. And to add another layer of enigma, this soft, quiet girl will zip around the room, in a move that even the most playful of Lange cats can't match. She's so beautiful. So truly fascinating. In sum, she is an original. She is Shellay.

Sophie
Female
3 years 8 months.
Sophie
Visit me at Lange Foundation
Sophie is our beautiful grey floof. Don't let her looks fool you--there is also a fun/ny kitty behind that fancy exterior! Sophie had been at St. Bonnie's location since she was 2 months old. She moved over to our Westside location last January. At first, she was a little unsure about living alongside all the new cats in the front room enclosure. Like many young, friendly kitties, she just wanted to play and interact. The more senior cats in her new digs gave her a memo right up front, that she needed to tone it down a bit. Sophie has a sweet and agreeable personality...so she took the note and over time became a little less playful--more respectful and able to "read the room." A consequence of this for Sophie has been that she seems a bit bored and maybe slightly depressed. We see this happen sometimes, in our more "well-adjusted" cats. They come in full of bright intentions. And become a little subdued over time, due to the social conventions of communal living and the kennel environment. What we DO know is that Sophie is a super loving girl! She is an instant belly-flopper--offering up her undercarriage for gentle pets. She is a really cuddly cat and this quality will likely blossom and grow as she leans into the security of living in a home. And you'll love the way that you can pet her for long stretches of time, with her looking up adoringly! Sophie is still very silly and playful in nature, though right now she doesn't really risk running around after wand toys or laser lights. But we feel strongly that this playfulness will come back...when she has the freedom to express herself through play and movement. Right now she contents herself with being a Seeker of the Sunbeam--napping luxuriously. Patiently waiting for that deeper interaction. If you think you have room for a gorgeous fluffypants that would love some one-on-one time, Sophie is the one for you!

Stevie
Visit me at Lange Foundation
Stevie is a cat that Lange recently rescued from a hoarding situation. She had what seemed to be a chronic upper respiratory infection that refused to clear up, in spite of antibiotics. We took her to an internal medicine vet, who with the help of a scope, was able to find a large polyp in her nasal passage. They were able to remove a large portion of it and now she is breathing so much easier. Perhaps the most surprising finding of all was to see what a difference this made to Stevie's personality. She came in a slightly miserable little girl. Uncomfortable and not disposed to seeking human attention. Now she is one of the first to wave her paw for attention. Stevie is also an incredibly adventurous cat. She climbs and clambers like a little mountain goat! She is PLAYFUL and SO SOCIAL! We have hardly recognized this utterly fearless kitty, who will happily run in a pack of any number or combination of other social cats and dogs. We are so thrilled to see her feeling better and really seeking to go hard and enjoy all that life has to offer. She is ready and has proven herself more-than-willing to be placed in a home, for her new adventure! Might it be with you?

Sullivan
Visit me at Lange Foundation
There is something so tough and so tender about Sullivan. Part of this due to his poignant start in life. He was found underneath a trash can. Alone and with a birth defect that prevented his eyelids from forming completely. We think that this feature gives him a mischievous look, which matches his personality perfectly. Sully is an absolutely wonderful boy! Definitely more of a dog than a cat; he's a sometimes wild boy, who also loves a good cuddle. Fun Facts: Sullivan wakes up from a nap super cute and snuggly. He has earned a reputation for "Most Hangry Boy" at Lange In his lean teenage days he was sometimes overwhelmed and defensive with so many other kitty residents. Over time, he's made so much progress. We've loved watching Sullivan getting more settled into his own skin. He's found a fast friend in the light-hearted PANDORA--they are hilarious together! Sullivan is one of those truly unique cats that we know will live a full, rich life as a solo companion--or in a home with any other cat that is mellow and sweet. His care is easy--he just requires an eye drop twice a day. If you would like to know more about this handsome fellow, just ask the staff!

Tina
Female
2 years 8 months.
Tina
Visit me at Lange Foundation
Tina was one of 14 cats that Lange brought in from the East Valley Shelter in mid-May. Half of these were rather traumatized and emotionally withdrawn--ranging from timid/shy to having little or no emotion to behaviors of fear-based aggression. Tina definitely fell into the more "shy" category. After her initial quarantine, she was placed in a room with a very defensive, growly and terrified protector cat from that same group. While she liked to cuddle and sought comfort from the other cat, she did not seem in any way to be hostile. Just more timid and unsure and she took her reserved cues to be cautious from that other cat. With the passing of time, in a quiet enclosure with some of the other shy kitties from that group, Tina really deserves the title of "Most Improved!" You can now find her sitting on a floating wall shelf--at shoulder level when you walk in. You can approach and pet her without difficulty. She not only tolerates this attention, but seems to enjoy the physical aspect; and she will flex her toes and stretch out to show you that you can continue. Her inscrutable fluffy Himalayan face, with its slightly grumpy appearance still seems a little hard to read; though she makes direct eye contact and does not seem frightened at all. If anything, a little bored and underwhelmed. That said, the one thing we have yet to see is any spark of real joy or interest that indicates that she is ready to fully open up her heart and mind to her new life at Lange. So far treats and toys mean nothing to her. So it will be through this type of physical contact that we will continue to push and see if she can continue to have breakthroughs. We'll keep letting her know that she is safe and loved. And we will try to find out if we can find out just what brings this cat her own specific brand of joy. From the changes we have seen so far, we feel Tina is ready to be considered a viable adoption option. One that requires an understanding adopter who is willing to wait for the relationship to build over time, through trust. She may open up more quickly once she realizes she is in a stable, quiet captial "H"ome. While we can't predict how Tina specifically will do in a home placement, we have seen some of our really timid cats blossom and thrive. We certainly do know that Tina is worthy of the satisfaction of knowing she is loved, safe and secure in a life of her own. Hopefully in a real home of her own. If you think that Tina might be a fit for you, please contact the staff for more information!

Titan

Titan
Visit me at Lange Foundation
Like his brother, Bilbo, Titan is one shy guy! They were brought from the East Valley Shelter, rescued from a hoarding situation. Titan's level of stress since coming to Lange, late in May, has been intense! In his small cage, he remained in his litter box, coiled in a ball. When staff tried to comfort or pet him, he did not put up any resistance. So he is not a cat to lash out (the good news!). His reaction was to shut down (the not-so-good news). He kept his body clenched and felt as hard as a rock to the touch. He would tremble at being pet for too long of a time. There was not much progress made in the effort to soothe poor Titan. He had such a flat affect and along with this dislike of human touch, he also did not respond to treats, play or catnip. He was then moved to the Room 1 enclosure, where he has spent his time hiding, trying to stay off the radar of people who come in the room. He does not seem to have any problem with other cats, he keeps very much to himself! Working with Titan and our other shy or traumatized cats can be a slow process! Our first priority is to make sure that they feel comfortable and secure in their enclosure. We will be taking the next months to keep trying to make contact, through a variety of means. We're hoping that it will just take some time to get this sweet boy to come out of his shell. It's up to Titan and we want to give him every chance! Lange Foundation is open to serious inquiries from interested adopters who have experience with this type of cat. We are ultimately unsure what Titan's outcome will be--if he is able to work through his former life's troubles, so we would need to make sure that you have reasonable expectations! Please ask the staff if you are willing to take the slow and steady steps of helping one of our most vulnerable residents. Sometimes a quiet home, with the right adopter, can make a world of difference. To you and to a cat like Titan!

This young lady has had quite a "how did you come to Lange" story! We rescued her as a surgery case from East Valley Shelter, after she was dropped off by someone who had found her hanging from her leg in a tree! Good news: she made it to us! Better news: although we were not able to save the leg, due to the damage in her knee--she has recovered from her surgery and has healed up nicely. Best news? She is getting around great! And we find that in spite of her early ordeal, she is SUCH A NICE KITTY! It's amazing how resilient these little guys are and Twizzler is no exception. We have had a lot of experience adopting out tripods and know that they make wonderful pets! They often seem to have that extra zest it takes to adapt and require little in the way of your help or modification. Just an open eye and mind to help them learn to navigate the world. And Twizzler will need that help any way, as she is still a youngster who needs all your help in learning how to "kitty" and become a companion animal for some lucky adopter! Perhaps the very best news yet is that Twizzler was recently well enough to undergo her spay. So that means she is up and ready to be placed into a home! Would you just look at that face? How can you resist this little Twist? She's the kitty who is sure to make your heart happy!
