In 2016 we decided to do all we could to keep pets out of public animal shelters in the first place. We started an intervention program at the overcrowded Lancaster and Palmdale shelters through which we contracted with the LA County Dept of Animal Care & Control to provide a Safety Net Program. There is a Lange Foundation Intervention Counselor inside the shelters to do all we can to prevent owners who think they have no other recourse other than surrendering their pets to the shelter system. We provide spay/neuter, medical care, food/supplies, training assistance, and financial assistance to pet owners in getting their pet out of the shelter. All of this assistance has resulted in a dramatic decrease in the number of impounded pets and has helped keep pets and their families together!
If you live in the Antelope Valley Area and need spay/neuter or food/supply assistance, please fill out an application by clicking on the blue button below labelled “Pet Assistance Application”.

A few notes:
» Applications are always accepted but may take 1-2 weeks to be reviewed individually. Upon review, you will be provided with an update via email regarding your application and receiving assistance, so please keep an eye on your inbox and spam folders for our communication!
» Spay/Neuter assistance is provided in the form of an assistance voucher. The voucher may not be for your preferred vet, as we have a small number of vets that are partnered with the Safety Net program. Due to this, we recommend that you do not have an appointment already scheduled as you will instead need to make an appointment with the vet listed on the voucher. (Please note that any vet may be booked out 2-6 weeks for appointments.)
» There is a $50 deposit that will need to be paid to the vet listed on the voucher when you make your appointment with them. This is then applied to the cost of the spay/neuter procedure with the remaining costs covered by the assistance voucher. If you request any additional services for your pet, you are responsible for the cost of these services. (The vet may require an exam/test to be completed before the procedure if your pet is a senior pet and/or is showing signs of illness. This exam/test is not covered by the voucher.)
» Your pet will need to be up to date on their vaccines at the time of your application. If your pet does not have their current vaccinations (or if they expire within the next month), you will need to take your pet for their yearly vaccines before we are able to provide you with an assistance voucher.
» We do not provide vaccine assistance, assist other rescue/adoption organizations, those that are rescuing/fostering/adopting an animal, those with stray/feral animals, and those with pets that are pregnant. We recommend going to the local animal shelter and asking about available assistance programs for these types of pets/situations.
