In 2007, through a generous bequest, the Lange Foundation purchased a 4.5 acre property in Canyon Country in the Santa Clarita Valley. This allowed us a place of our own in which to expand our rescue work to include the forgotten desert shelters. In mid-2010, the first of what we hope will be many kennels was completed.
It has 23 spacious indoor/outdoor dog runs and a large cat room with a fully enclosed cat play area. There are two ISO rooms with separate air systems so that those rescued who are ill can recover in comfort. The kennel is equipped with all modern animal care amenities and was given top rating by Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control.
Prior to our purchase, the property had been used as a horse ranch. There is a state-of-the-art barn and five large pastures. Shortly after our escrow closed, we heard of several starving horses who were in grave need of care. It seemed obvious as to what we had to do and shortly thereafter we were caring for 14 horses. We did not realize it at the time but we had just entered the world of horse rescue.
Since 2008, we have rescued 43 horses and ponies. They receive the same quality of care as our cats and dogs from our dedicated Sanctuary staff and volunteers.

Memorial:Lisa Lambert, Sanctuary Manager
1958 – 2014
Lisa Michelle Maileilani Lambert, age 55, passed away at her home in Canyon Country, CA on Sunday, February 16, 2014 after a long battle with ovarian cancer. She was born July 27, 1958 in San Francisco, CA.
Lisa was the Sanctuary Manager for St. Bonnie’s since it first opened. She dedicated her life to rescuing animals and had a compassionate, generous spirit. She left an indelible mark on every life she touched, animal and human, working tirelessly in her quest to save abandoned or neglected dogs, cats, and horses. She had the greatest sense of humor and loved life to its fullest. Lisa never had a “bad day”.
“Ahuihou Dear Esau, Aloha Nui Loa” ~ you will be in our hearts forever.

Retired Horses

St. Bonnie’s is the beautiful 4.5 acre ranch we purchased in 2007.  From the start, the property was equipped with modern stables and huge pastures – space for at least 12 horses to live comfortably.

Not long after we moved in, a horrific hoarding situation was uncovered and the heart-breaking living condition of hundreds of horses was discovered. County animal control had seized control of the property and was looking for rescue organizations to help. Gillian agreed on one condition – that we only rescue the old, the sick, the injured, and the ones in desperate need.

That we did and we haven’t stopped there. Along the way, we have rescued other horses, two minis, many ponies and a donkey, all have survived cruelty or were seized from hoarding situations. When you see these beautiful animals today, you would never know they were ever mistreated.

If you would like to help us care for these beautiful animals, donations are always welcome.

Retired Cats

Our Resident Cat: Poochie!

St. Bonnie’s Sanctuary welcomed its first resident cat back when we were first starting construction on our kennels.

Poochie moved to his new digs on May 17th, after spending over three years at our Halfway Home Kennel. He waited and waited and waited for someone to overlook his tough, gruff exterior. But no one did. It was time to accept that our big tough guy wasn’t going to find his forever home.

Until NOW! Poochie finally has his own home. He lives in the house at St. Bonnie’s Sanctuary, with access to a big beautiful outdoor enclosure. He can climb, jump, watch the birds, talk to the dogs, all from within his secure outdoor space. When he wants to take a break from his tough guy exploits, he wanders back inside to the comforts of home. This is cat Heaven.

Even though he still wants us to believe he is big and bad, he is really just a big softie. His favorite place in the whole world is on his favorite person’s lap. There, he can purr contentedly as he watches the world go by.

We will keep everyone updated with stories and photos of Poochie’s new adventures!

If you are interested in learning more about our sanctuary or if you would like to come visit, please contact us. The dogs, cats, and horses love visitors and we are always looking for volunteers to help out.

Retired Dogs

Every animal rescued by the Lange Foundation is special. We make a life-long commitment to each one. Our ultimate goal is to find each one a perfect, loving forever home.

Unfortunately a forever home never comes for a few. Some of the dogs and cats rescued are inexplicably overlooked or were so neglected and abused that they are beyond rehabilitation.

For those special dogs and cats, St. Bonnie Sanctuary was built to be their forever home. This is a place where they will be loved and spoiled for the rest of their lives. Our retired dogs live indoors in a real home with access to tons of outdoor space to play, run and experience life.

Sponsor

Our Sanctuary dogs require food, grooming, medical care, and everything an animal needs to be happy and healthy. If you would like to contribute to their care, please check out their photographs and see if you would like to sponsor a particular dog. If you would like to make a general donation, that is also very much appreciated.
