Adoptions

Lange Foundation saves animals in danger of being euthanized at city and country shelters. We are devoted to finding loving, lifetime homes for every rescued pet and place a high emphasis on matching the right animal with the right family to ensure a fulfilling relationship for all involved. Our experienced adoption counselors are happy to guide you in finding the best match.

You are welcome to visit our available animals at our West Los Angeles and Canyon Country locations. We encourage you to spend as much time as you can with the animal you are interested in. Depending on age, a pet can be a commitment of 15 years or more.

Our adoption process includes an application, home visit, and adoption fee.

What do I need to adopt?

  • You must be 21 years or older.
  • Please bring a valid photo I.D. card with your current address.
  • Rent? Provide your landlord’s name and contact information or copy of the lease stating that pets are allowed.
  • Own? Provide a copy of your deed, mortgage payment book, or property tax bill.

Adoption Policies

Adoption Timeline

Due to our application process, we do not do same-day adoptions. The process typically takes 2-3 days depending on when a home visit can be scheduled.

Adoption Area

Because we do a home visit prior to adoption we adopt to families in the Southern California region only. This is typically forty miles around Los Angeles and forty miles around Canyon Country.

Adoption Fees

Adoption fees are $125 for adult cats, $150 for cats under 1 year of age. Dogs adoption fees are $250 for adult dogs and $350 for dogs under 1 year of age. The adoption fee goes toward care, boarding, food, vaccines, grooming, surgeries, and much more that goes beyond your new pet. Adoption fees usually do not cover all costs put into each animal. When you provide one animal with a loving home, your adoption fee contributes toward the cost of rescue by supporting all the pets at Lange Foundation and allowing us to save more.

We regret we can not adopt to families with children 6 years old and under.

Our interest is making sure every member of the family is happy and safe. Unfortunately, adoptions to families with small children have been unsuccessful in the past. The situation is difficult for both the children and pets when an animal is returned.

Any swimming pool must be secured.

If your home has a swimming pool, it must be inaccessible to your new pet by being fenced or completely covered.

We do not disclose reasons for declining an application.

We carefully review each application to match our animals to the right home. We do not provide specific reasons if an application is declined.
